Every child must take an Entrance Assessment to be considered for enrollment. The assessment along with the academic history (report cards, standardized test scores) and teacher recommendation help to determine a child's acceptance. Please review the prerequisites for each grade level. Your child may still be accepted, even if they have not mastered all the skills by the time of the assessment. However, please continue to work with them until they have mastered all the skills to ensure success in class. The enrollment season begins in January for the next school year. The Entrance Assessments are typically scheduled for the Spring and Summer. Please call the school at (904) 722-9223 to schedule an Entrance Assessment. Note: Students entering the K3, K4, K5 must be 3, 4, or 5 by Sept. 1st Pre-Requisites
K3 Prerequisites Below are the prerequisites that your child should be familiar with before the Assessment. - Must be Fully Potty Trained
- Able to sit for at least 15 minutes (to complete an activity, listen to a story, etc.)
- Able to speak clearly and share needs with the teacher
Other items to work on: - Develop fine motor skills (use play dough, lacing cards, etc. to strengthen the muscles in the hands).
- Practice coloring pictures
- Putting a puzzle together (10-20 pieces)
- Be able to care for their restroom needs (properly cleanse themselves, fasten clothing etc.).
PLEASE NOTE: Your child may still be accepted, even if they have not mastered all the skills by the time of the Assessment. However, please continue to work with them until they have mastered all the skills. K4 Prerequisites Below are the prerequisites that your child should be familiar with before the Assessment. - Plainly say his/her first and last name.
- Recite (not sing) the complete alphabet.
- Identify upper and lower case letters of the alphabet.
- Recognize (at least) numbers 0-10.
- Count from 0-20 without assistance
- Know the following colors: red, yellow, green, blue, white, black, and brown.
- Completely color a picture.
- Hold pencil correctly in primary writing hand.
- Listen and follow simple directions.
Other items to work on: - Use scissors to cut out objects.
- Be able to care for their restroom needs (properly cleanse themselves, fasten clothing).
- Practice tying shoes.

However, please continue to work with them until they have mastered all the skills. K5 Prerequisites Below are the prerequisites that your child should be familiar with before the Assessment. - Plainly say and write his/her first name (on lined paper).
- Recite (not sing) the complete alphabet.
- Write and identify letters of the alphabet. (e.g. Aa Bb Cc Dd etc.)
- Recognize and count numbers 0 – 20 without assistance.
- Count the number of objects without assistance.
- Know the following colors: red, yellow, green, blue, white, black, and brown.
- Completely color a picture (staying in the lines).
- Know date of birth.
Other items to work on: - Use scissors to cut out objects.
- Be able to care for their restroom needs (properly cleanse themselves, fasten clothing etc.).

However, please continue to work with them until they have mastered all the skills. 1st Grade Prerequisites Below are the prerequisites that your child should be familiar with before the Assessment. - Write his/her first and last name.Identify, write, and know the sounds of consonants and vowels (A,E,I,O,U).
- Read short and long vowel words: "man", "cat", "boat", "seed" and simple sentences.
- Count and identify numbers 1-100
- Write numbers to 100.
- Recognize number words 1-10.
- Be able to listen and follow directions.

However, please continue to work with them until they mastered all the skills. 2nd Grade Prerequisites Below are the prerequisites that your child should be familiar with before the Assessment. - Have legible manuscript handwriting and correct hand and pencil position.
- Identify and know sounds of the consonants and vowels. (A,E,I,O,U)
- Alphabetize words.
- Create and write simple sentences.
- Read orally and silently with comprehension.
- Count by two's, fives, and tens to 100.
- Read and write numbers to 100.
- Know the place value of a number to Thousands. (ex. 4,329 = the 3 is in the hundreds place).
- Addition and subtraction families to 18 (ex. 18-9=9, 10+8=18)
- Tell time to the hour and half hour.
PLEASE NOTE: Your child may still be accepted, even if they have not mastered all the skills by the time of the Assessment. However, please continue to work with them until they mastered all the skills. 3rd Grade Prerequisites Below are the prerequisites that your child should be familiar with before the Assessment. - Write a sentence using complete thought. (ex.The dog ran after the cat.)
- Read and comprehend a passage using expression, paying attention to punctuation.
- Addition and subtraction with regrouping (carrying and borrowing).
- Know multiplication facts (0-5 tables).
Other skills to work on: - Organizational skills - (ability to keep up with materials, place information in correct folders, etc.)

However, please continue to work with them until they mastered all the skills. 4th Grade PrerequisitesBelow are the prerequisites that your child should be familiar with before the Assessment. - Cursive writing with correct hand and paper position.
- Be able to express thoughts in writing.
- Read with expression and comprehension paying attention to punctuation.
- Organizational skills.
- Know the place value of a number to 100 Thousand. (ex. 405,329 = the 3 is in the hundreds place).
- Addition and subtraction of at least 6 digit numbers with regrouping.
- Know multiplication tables 0’s-12’s.
- Be able to multiply and divide to the thousands. (ex. 437 x 543 =) 456 /32

- Be able to express thoughts in writing and compose stories and articles.
- Comprehension skills; ability to read an article or book then discuss and write about it.
- Proper use of dictionary. Be able to use pronunciation key in the dictionary.
- Know of parts of speech. (nouns, verb, adverb, adjective, pronoun etc.)
- Know multiplication tables (0-12) with speed.
- Multiplication and division of whole numbers through 4-digit multiplier and divisor (ex. 45,677 x 3,568)
- Fraction knowledge: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
- Be able to solve math story problem with multiple steps.

However, please continue to work with them until they mastered all the skills. 6th Grade Prerequisites Below are the prerequisites that your child should be familiar with before the Assessment. - Cursive writing with correct hand and paper position
- Be able to express thoughts in writing and compose stories and articles giving adequate detail.
- Comprehension skills; ability to read an article or book and discuss and write about it.
- Proper use of dictionary. Be able to use pronunciation key in the dictionary.
- Proficient language usage and knowledge of parts of speech.
- Organizational skills.
- Know multiplication tables (0 – 12) with speed and understanding of multiples & factors.
- Multiplication and division of whole numbers through 7-digit multiplier and divisor
- Fraction knowledge: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.
- Knowledge of graphs and linear measures with conversion.
- Comprehension of mathematical story problems.
- Successfully demonstrate understanding of place value and rounding numbers.

However, please continue to work with them until they mastered all the skills. 7th Grade Prerequisites Below are the prerequisites that your child should be familiar with before the Assessment. - Organizational Skills: be able to organize school subjects and keep up with all materials.
- Cursive writing should be in correct form and legible.
- Demonstrate understanding of place value and rounding numbers to the millions.
- Know all multiplication and division tables from 0 -12 with speed and accuracy.
- Successfully multiply and divide whole numbers with 7-digit multipliers and divisors.
- Be able to manipulate multiple step math story problems.
- Fraction Knowledge: add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Know how to obtain the greatest/least common factors, prime numbers, composite numbers and Roman Numerals.
- Adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and rounding decimals.
- Thoroughly understand percents, ratios, profit vs. loss, and converting measures
- Be able to express thoughts in writing and compose stories and writing with adequate details.
- Be familiar with writing Research papers and the components contained in one.
- Comprehension Skills: read an assigned text and accurately explain its context.
